What is Sinusitis?

Sinuses are located in the bones around the nose. The hollow structures found here are called sinuses. There are 5 sinus regions on our face, including the cheek sinuses, the forehead sinuses, the sinuses between the eyes, the sinuses in the nasal region.

Symptoms of Sinusitis

Symptoms of sinusitis varying from person to person are commonly known as headache or facial pain. However, the symptoms of sinusitis are not very apparent with pain. Pain in sinusitis is very low. Significant and common complaints in sinusitis are nasal congestion, distortion of the voice, fullness in the face, and runny nose. Chronic sinusitis may also present as a cough, yellow-green colored runny nose, colds (flu) lasting more than 10-14 days, nasal congestion and snoring, nasal discharge and sometimes burning in the throat.

Diagnosis and Treatment of Sinusitis

The symptoms of sinusitis are as above. Endoscopic examination and sinus tomography can be used to diagnose patients with such complaints. Improperly treated sinusitis can cause serious complications such as chronic pharyngitis, meningitis and brain abscess. If there is no result with drug treatment, surgery is considered.
